Peripheral artery disease is known as hardening of the arteries in the legs. Patients with this disease may have pain in the legs when they walk, gangrenous toes or ulcers that are difficult to heal.

Peripheral Artery Disease Screening

Screening is simple and painless. ABI which measures the difference in blood flow between the arms and the legs can be measured using ultrasound. A ratio of < 0.90 indicates plaque build up. A ratio > 0.90 is normal.

Who should get PAD screening?
Consider screening if you are aged > 60, diabetic, smoker, have high blood pressure, history of heart attack or stroke.
